Julia Mitrić is an award-winning audio journalist whose work has been featured on NPR’s Morning Edition and All Things Considered, American Public Media’s Marketplace and public radio stations throughout the U.S.
Julia currently works as an editor, trainer and story consultant for NPR news stations. She’s also part of Editor Corps, a group of veteran public media editors who provide support and training to NPR newsrooms nationwide, a project of the Public Media Journalists Association.
Before the pandemic, Julia reported on Graying California, a collaborative series which won the 2020 Edward R. Murrow award for multimedia. It was part of a two-year reporting project called The California Dream. From 2016 - 2019, Julia covered Food and Sustainability as a beat reporter with Capital Public Radio.
Earlier in her career, Julia reported a series of award-winning audio and digital documentaries, covering a range of topics, including food insecurity, California’s high school dropout crisis and the long path to citizenship for adults brought to the U.S. from Mexico as children.
The foundation of Julia’s work in public broadcasting was built during her time on staff at NPR News headquarters in Washington, DC. She was an editorial assistant and then producer on the National News desk. Julia was later tapped to be the traveling field producer for Linda Wertheimer, one of the “founding mothers” of NPR. Julia is a long-time member of AIR, the Association of Independents in Radio.
When she’s not editing, consulting or reporting, you can find Julia reading novels, poetry and cookbooks. She daydreams about swimming in the Adriatic sea.
